About Us
Alberta Students Finance, part of Alberta Advanced Education and Technology, aims to help Alberta students achieve their post-secondary educational goals. We award various types of funding including government loans, grants and bursaries. Our program is based on the principle that the cost of a post-secondary education is a shared responsibility between students, their families and government, so we perform a calculation based on the financial need and eligibility of each applicant.
When you submit an application, you will be considered for funding from both the provincial and federal governments. Students Finance administers the Alberta Student Funding Program as well as the Canada Student Loan and Grant Programs on behalf of the federal government. Funding is available for both full- and part-time students but separate application forms are required.
Facts About Funding
In recent years, Students Finance has improved the Alberta Student Funding Program significantly. Some of the merits of our program include:

- automatic consideration for grants and bursaries when you apply
- grants available for students with permanent disabilities
- reduction in expected parental contribution - last year only 21% of dependent students were expected to receive financial help from parents
- exemption of the value of your personal vehicle in your consideration for funding
- exemption of scholarships or Alberta institutional bursaries in your consideration for funding
- attractive interest rates when you enter student loan repayment
- repayment of a portion of your Alberta Student Loan by the Alberta government for qualifying students
- repayment assistance for students having difficulty repaying loans.
Information About Other Funding
If you are attending short-term occupational training, ESL studies, or upgrading courses, you may be eligible for funding through a different program called Alberta Works, administered by Alberta Employment and Immigration.
