Grant Eligibility
To be eligible for a grant or bursary in Alberta, you must:
1. be a resident of Alberta
You are considered a resident of Alberta if:
- Alberta is the last province you have lived in for 12 consecutive months without being a full-time post-secondary or upgrading student, or
- you are a dependent student and your parents reside in Alberta

2. prove financial need
When you apply for funding your financial need is calculated based on the information you provide.
3. be enrolled as a full-time student
You may be considered a full-time student if:
What is considered full-time studies may vary with each post-secondary institution. Contact your post-secondary institution to determine what is considered a full course load.

NOTE: If you drop to part-time status, you are considered withdrawn and your grant will be adjusted. |
4. maintain academic progress
What Happens to my Grants if I Don't Cash my Loans?
Grants that you are eligible to receive may not be issued to you until you cash your student loans.
What if I Received a Grant Over-Award?
If you have been notified that you received a grant over-award, you are responsible to pay back the over-award funds.
If your over-award is determined as a result of:
- a reassessment of your application, contact the Student Funding Contact Centre if you have questions about your reassessment
- an audit of your application, contact Program Compliance and Investigations, Learner Assistance, to discuss the audit findings and appeal deadlines.
