Alberta Student Loan Relief
If you have an Alberta student loan and have completed your studies, a portion of your Alberta student loan balance may be reduced by the Alberta government. This reduction does not apply to Canada student loans.
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must:
- have completed your program of studies and received your post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree, and
- have an Alberta student loan, and
- have exceeded the minimum debt level for your program. This level varies by program each year and is set by the Alberta government.
How do I qualify?
To be automatically considered for Loan Relief, you must have indicated on your funding application that you:
- are in the final year of your program, and
- will complete your program of study and receive your post-secondary credential by the end of the current study period
If you indicated both of these things on your application, you will be automatically considered for Loan Relief, normally within six months of the date you complete your studies.
If you do complete your studies, but did not inform us on your application that you would be completing this year, you can submit the Alberta student loan relief application to make sure you are considered for Loan Relief.
How will my Alberta student loan be reduced?
If you qualify, the Alberta government will send payment directly to EDULINX, the Alberta student loan service provider, to reduce your Alberta student loan.
