Your time in high school will go by quicker than you can imagine. Before you know it, you will have to make decisions about work or school.

Check out the learning and career options that relate to your interests and note the admission requirements for your preferred programs. The choices you make now will open up your choices for the future.

Continue to think about your interests and strengths.  Your family, friends, and teachers know you well… ask them what they think you’re good at too!

TIP:  Get some tips on helping you discover your strengths, interests and personality type with some self-assessment tools!

Explore occupations that relate to your interests and strengths. Dig deeper into the occupations that interest you by getting the details on what you can expect to be doing on a daily basis. Try getting involved in different things like volunteering, job shadowing, joining school teams or clubs, or attending career fairs to help you discover what you enjoy doing and what you’re good at.

Begin a portfolio for yourself.  A portfolio will give you a leading edge in an interview because it showcases all your great work!

TIP:  Some of the experience you get when volunteering or joining school clubs can be added to your portfolio!

Try relating your interests and strengths to post-secondary programs you would be interested in after high school.

TIP:  Make sure you have the right high school courses for programs you might be considering after high school.

Research and start making a list of post-secondary schools that offers the programs you’re interested in.  Checking out the school website is a great starting point!

TIP:  If you have not already done so, plan a visit to the post-secondary schools that interest you.  Take a tour, or utilize a "student for a day" program that many schools offer for prospective students! Check out the school's website for more information.

Check admission requirements to post-secondary schools that you’re considering and work towards meeting them.  You can find these requirements in your guidance counsellor’s office or on the post-secondary school’s website.

TIP:  Even if you checked the admission requirements last year, check again! Sometimes entrance requirements change.
