Education in the Province of Alberta

Alberta is one of 10 provinces and 3 territories in Canada. No national or federal department of education exist here because the federal and provincial/territorial governments share the work of governing the country; the provincial and territorial governments have jurisdiction over education.

In Alberta, education from Kindergarten to Grade 12 (primary and secondary education - generally ages 6-18) is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education.

Post-secondary education, including universities, colleges and technical institutions, is the responsibility of the Ministry of Advanced Education
