Required Information to Gain Access
Secure Identity and Access Management System (SIAMS)
Before accessing the online application, you must have registered with the Secure Identity and Access Management System (SIAMS).
- If you have already registered with SIAMS (e.g. when you applied to your educational institution online at applyalberta.ca) you must enter your SIAMS User ID, password, and Social Insurance Number to get to the online application.
- If you do not yet have a SIAMS User ID and password, you must first register with SIAMS. Then, you will be directed to the Students Finance System.
Two levels of access to the Online Application
What does "Basic Access" mean?
If you have basic access, it means that you:
- can apply online for full-time post-secondary funding
- can continue to complete an online work-in-progress application
- have never previously applied for or received student funding
- must provide the following information:
- name (first and last) - current full legal name
- date of birth
- Alberta Student Number
- Social Insurance Number
- gender
What does "Full Access" mean?
If you have full access, it means that you:
- can apply online for full-time post-secondary funding
- can continue to complete an online work-in-progress application
- can inquire online about a previously submitted application
- have previously applied for and received student funding
- must use one of the two full access options to gain access
- must provide the following information plus the information listed under one of the two options:
- name (first and last) - current full legal name
- date of birth
- Alberta Student Number
- Social Insurance Number
- gender
- option 1: Cashed loan certificate information from a loan issued by Alberta since 1999, including
- cashed full-time student loan certificate number
- cashed full-time loan disbursement amount
- option 2: Alberta high school information, including
- city where you attended high school
- name of high school attended
- names of two (2) high school diploma exam courses and final mark for each course

The information under option 1 or option 2 only needs to be provided one time after you have registered with SIAMS. Once you have done this, you will be able to access the online application in the future (to submit a new application or check on the status of your current application) simply by providing your SIAMS User ID, password and Social Insurance Number.

Security processes are in place to make sure your personal information is protected. These processes are based on Alberta Government standards.
As one of the security processes, the Alberta government must authenticate your identity. |
