Types of Funding for Part-time Studies

Alberta Part-time Bursary

To be eligible for this bursary for part-time studies, you must:

  • have established residency in Alberta (lived in Alberta for 12 consecutive months without being a full-time student).

Students attending a post-secondary institution may be eligible for up to $600 per semester. The maximum funding available for one calendar year (August 1 to July 31) is $1,800.

Part-time Canada Student Loan*


*Interest-bearing loan funding is available - balance cannot exceed $10,000 at any time.

Additional eligibility criteria to receive the maximum $10,000:

  • you must be enrolled in 20-59% of a full-time course load (20-39% for students with a permanent disability)

If you have previously received part-time funding, you must attach a statement of marks or a copy of your official transcript(s) to verify that you passed your previously funded courses.

Canada Student Grant for Part-time Studies

Additional eligibility criteria to receive up to $1,200 (annually) in grant funding:

  • you must be enrolled in 20-59% of a full-time course load (20-39% for students with a permanent disability)

If you have previously received part-time funding, you must attach a statement of marks or a copy of your official transcript(s) to verify that you passed your previously funded courses.

Additional eligibility criteria:

  • you must have part-time Canada Student Loan eligibility
  • you must be a person with a permanent disability as defined by the Canada Student Loan Program
  • you must provide acceptable documentation of your permanent disability as required by the Canada Student Loan Program
  • you must complete a Schedule 4. See a coordinator for students with permanent disabilities at your educational institution or a Consultant at an Alberta Service Centre or Canada-Alberta Service Centre.
