If a course I’ve taken isn’t listed in the TransferAlberta Guide, how do I know if I’ll get transfer credit for it?
Contact the institution to discuss transfer possibilities. You may have to provide extra information, such as course outlines, to be considered for transfer credit.
Ensure you have searched a couple of keyword variations on the Online TransferAlberta Guide. If the course does not come up, it means there is no formalized transfer agreement involving that course. This does not mean that you don't have an opportunity to be assessed for credit. However, in order to be assessed for transfer credit, you will have to talk to the institution you want to transfer to.

If all the courses I’ve taken are listed in the TransferAlberta Guide, is there any reason why I might not receive transfer credit?
There are several reasons why you might not receive transfer credit:
- The courses you took are not relevant to the program you’re transferring to.
- You took the course(s) too long ago.
- Your grade did not meet the required minimum grade.
- You want to transfer more courses than the maximum allowed by the institution (also known as a residency requirement).

I took some courses over 10 years ago. Will they still transfer?
Individual institutions determine whether these courses are still applicable to their programs. Please check with the institution you’re transferring to.
Any courses you took before the 1993–94 school year will not appear in the Online TransferAlberta Guide. Contact Transfer Alberta to find out if they appear in previous versions of the Guide dating back to 1979.

- You have completed the courses within a certain number of years (varies, depending on the course).
