Growth stage
For many entrepreneurs
with a growing company, strategic planning does not take priority.
Ensuring production is meeting its schedule, dealing with all the
small issues that arise from day-to-day operations, and increasing
sales usually occupy all the entrepreneur’s time. There is
often barely enough time to sit down, let alone make time to plan.
However, sometimes this is the clearest indication that strategic
planning is necessary for a business.
To maintain long-term growth and achieve success, it is important
that businesses dedicate time to strategic planning -- not just
before they grow, but while they are growing.
Inevitably a
business undergoes numerous changes after start-up, and the same
plans that applied at the beginning will probably not be sufficient
for a somewhat established business. A
business situation can change considerably, perhaps even completely,
through the processes of initial action, opening and then growing
a business. Therefore a new set of considerations and goals should
be identified.
To grow is to change, and failure to do so can force a business
onto a treadmill – the continuous struggle with the same everyday
problems prevents it from initiating action to secure its future.
