The timeframe
that you select for your milestone plan is up to you. Adjust it
as often as you feel necessary to reflect your updated situation.
If you are working on paper, allow enough space between each milestone
so that if additional ones are thought of, they can be added in.
Those using a computer might want to try Microsoft Project.
It's a common software package that has an excellent milestone-planning
tool.
After the selected
milestones have been laid out along a timeline, identify the linkages
between different events and how they relate to each other. You
can do this using lines, arrows, or symbols; show what events need
to be accomplished in order for another to be possible, etc. You
should also include the major assumptions behind each event, as
long as they are realistic, for example, price or quality assumptions,
and the likelihood of events taking place on schedule.
