Marketing is
just as important in the online world as it is offline, perhaps
more so because there are many, many websites and it can be very
difficult for one to be noticed. However, marketing on the Internet
is different than in the offline world. Where a company might use
advertising or other promotional techniques exclusively in its regular
business, its online business has different requirements and will
demand different methods. These are largely governed by the nature
of the medium - computer and Internet users "view" things
differently than someone who is watching television or driving along
a street.
As with any
marketing campaign, however, it is important to first design a strategic
marketing plan. Traditionally, marketing plans include:
- A set of
clear marketing objectives.
- A target
market profile.
- An analysis
of the competitive environment.
- A comprehensive
strategy to reach those objectives.
E-marketing
plans generally follow the same pattern, with the added factor that
Internet users and their characteristics differ somewhat than offline
customers.
