Canadian Students from Alberta: Admission to Hope College requires a high school graduation with a minimum of a 60% average in the following Alberta high school courses: English 30/33. Social Studies 30/33, and a 30/33-level Science, Math, or foreign language course (if taken), Canadian Students from Other Provinces: In most Canadian provinces, Grade 12 is equivalent to the Alberta Secondary School Diploma and as such admission will require that a student from a province other than Alberta provide a transcript that aligns with the standards used to admit a student from Alberta. The exceptions are: a. Quebec: Successful completion of the first year of CEGEP (General and Vocational College Program) b. Ontario: Admission requires completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma with a minimum 60% combined average in ENG4U "English" plus five other Grade 12 U (University) or UC (University College) courses that mirror the standards used to admit a student from Alberta. Home Schooled Students Hope College makes provisions for applications from home graduates of home-based schools. Applicants who are unable to provide provincially examined senior course results are evaluated individually in order to determine their preparedness for post-secondary studies. Home-based learners must be at least 17 years of age in September, submit a portfolio of material they have completed as a home-based learner and provide the results from either a GED or SAT test. Mature Student Status A "mature student" designation refers to a person, aged 21 or older, who has not obtained an official high school diploma. Based upon their life experiences and personal ambitions, a mature student may be allowed to enroll at Hope College. Individuals must provide transcripts of material they have completed at the high school level or other educational institutions and the results from either a GED or SAT test. If admitted, a mature student may be placed on academic probation as part of their admission requirements. Students from the United States American students must have graduated from high school with a minimum of a C (60%) average. Although not required, students are encouraged to submit SAT or ACT scores to be considered for admission. Students in good standing at a college or university in the United States are also eligible to apply for admission and may receive transfer credits. For purposes of gaining permission to study in Canada (and not necessarily a pre-requisite for admission to Hope College), U.S. citizens must take note that studying in Canada requires a student to obtain student authorization. If you are a U.S. citizen, you do not need to apply at a Canadian Consulate, instead, you will obtain a Student Authorization at the Canadian port of entry (border crossing or airport) when you enter. Be prepared to present: a. Your college acceptance letter b. Immigration letter (sent to you upon acceptance) c. Proof of citizenship (e.g. birth certificate) d. Proof of sufficient funds for one year (a bank cheque [not a personal cheque] or statement, Hope College account receipt, or a letter from your sponsor on official letterhead stationery). Canadian Immigration charges $125 (subject to change) for Student Authorization documents at the border.
