This 9-week pre-employment program comprises the first period of the corresponding apprentice program that SAIT currently offers in this trade. As per AIT's contract, the length of a pre-employment program is set at 1.5 times the length of its corresponding apprentice program period. The program will train individuals to fabricate, construct, and join metal scaffolding, structural steel buildings, bridges, ornamental ironwork and pre-cast structures. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to write the first year Ironworker apprentice exam.

Admission Requirements

Successful completion of the following courses or equivalents:

  • Math 10C or Math 10-3 or Pure Math 10 or Applied Math 10
  • English Language Arts 10-1 or English Language Arts 10-2
  • English Proficiency

A pass mark in the SAIT Admission Examination (Level 4) or equivalent is accepted instead of the admission requirements. 
General Educational Development (GED) tests are not accepted instead of the admission requirements.

Admission will be extended on a first-qualified, first-offered basis until the program is full.
