Northern Alberta Institute of Technology
The Advanced Accounting program is a post-diploma program targeted for Accounting Diploma graduates who wish to pursue a mid-level career in accounting. This one year program will provide students with more Advanced Accounting and applied skills beyond the diploma level. Graduates of the Advanced Accounting program would be able to fill junior or intermediate accounting-related positions (i.e. in financial or managerial accounting, audit, tax, and accounting information systems). The program has been designed to meet the requirements for the Chartered Professional Accountants' (CPA) Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance (ACAF). Graduates of NAIT's Advanced Accounting program will be prepared to successfully write the CPA ACAF National Examination.

Admission Requirements

A diploma or degree and successful completion of the following prerequisite courses with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher*:

  • ACCT 2212 Intermediate Management Accounting II
  • ACCT 2208 Intermediate Financial Accounting II
  • BLAW 2205 Business Law
  • FNCE 3323 Corporate Finance
  • CMIS 2240 Accounting Applications
  • TAXX2202 Taxation I

English Language Proficiency

*Prerequisite courses must be completed before the program start date in order to receive full acceptance. 

If the prerequisite courses were completed outside of the diploma or degree used to meet entrance requirement, the prerequisite courses would be included in the calculation of the GPA.
