In our two-year Corrections program, you'll gain the required competencies through your courses and experiential learning opportunities in our specialized learning spaces to become exceptional candidates for a rewarding and challenging career in corrections. Sharing a common first year with students in our Criminal Justice - Policing program, you will develop key competencies such as communications, interpersonal-problem solving skills that are critical in corrections. In your second year, you will enhance your specialization skills relevant to corrections such as principles of behaviour change, along with other assessment skills.

Admission Requirements
General Admission Requirements: All applicants must meet the general admission requirements for Lethbridge College programs, as indicated in the Admission section of this calendar.

Practicum Experience Requirements: There is a required practicum component to this program. The College dictates the legal terms and conditions governing the practicum experience. Applicants are advised they will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check prior to enrolling in the practicum. The existence of a criminal record may affect practicum placement and employment prospects. The agencies reserve the right to determine who is considered a suitable candidate.

Medical Requirements: Although no physical requirements are placed on applicants for entry to the program, applicants are required to take a medical examination to ensure that their cardiovascular system is suitable to undertake fitness-related exercise.

Note: Applicants who lack the required academic admission requirements can apply to the College and University Preparatory Program to upgrade for your program.

Prior Learning Assessment (PLA): If you have experience working in this field of study, you may be eligible for Prior Learning Assessment.

Application Deadline

New students are accepted into the Correctional Studies diploma program in Fall (September) and Winter (January) terms for on-campus and online study. Online Learners can also apply for the Spring (May) term.


Student Aid

This program is eligible for full-time post-secondary assistance by Alberta Student Aid for the funding year 2021/08/01 to 2022/07/31*.

  • Mandatory Fees $1,378.00 Year One
