Upon successful completion of this graduate certificate program, offered over 12.5 months, graduates will have the knowledge and practical skills to work as Human Resources professionals in a variety of Human Resource settings. This program will also prepare graduates for the Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation. The program has been specifically developed to align with the Human Resources Institute of Alberta accreditation framework. Graduates of an accredited program who achieve a minimum overall average of 70% (2.7 GPA) in the program will be able to waive the National Knowledge Exam requirements towards the CPHR designation with Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Canada (CPHR) member associations. Graduates who do not achieve a minimum overall average of 70% in the program will be better equipped to write the National Knowledge Exam in preparation to obtain the CPHR designation. The entrance requirement of an undergraduate degree in any field ensures that students in the program will receive instruction commensurate with their background. Unique features of the program include:  Courses offered via on-line synchronous and asynchronous delivery  Courses offered sequentially in 4-week blocks over a period of 12.5 months  4 mandatory Applications in HR Executive Weekends offer face-to-face cohort learning opportunities, as well as opportunities to network with industry professionals  Capstone course integrates knowledge areas and applies learning to case studies based on real-world situations The Human Resources Management Graduate Certificate has been developed specifically to address a gap in post-secondary offerings for general degree holders who wish to enter a career in the Human Resources field and to achieve certification as a Chartered Professional. As of 2011, an undergraduate degree is required to be eligible to write the National Knowledge Examination to receive the Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation (an alternate route requiring 7 years' experience in lieu of the degree was announced in Fall 2016). The eligible degree does not need to be in the Human Resources or Management area. Human Resources Institute of Alberta (HRIA), the exclusive certifying body in Alberta for the Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation, is strongly supportive of this initiative, noting that it would be the first of its kind of Alberta to admit students from a Bachelor's Level degree. A number of industry initiatives underway in the province make the offering of this program extremely timely: HRIA is working toward self-regulation, and, to that end, has created its own provincial Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice; the Competency Framework has recently been revised; and accreditation of post-secondary programs in Alberta offering HR training has begun. There has been talk of instituting a CPHR eligibility requirement for accredited coursework. Representatives of HRIA have been actively consulted throughout the development process. Admission Requirements
An undergraduate degree in any discipline from an accredited institution.

Note: Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency in addition to the program admission requirements.

Graduation Requirements: 

Successful completion of all courses, with a minimum GPA of 2.0.

This program is eligible for full-time post-secondary assistance by Student Aid Alberta for the funding year 2019/08/01 to 2020/07/31*.
