Career Planning for Indigenous Peoples

What is career planning?

Your values, strengths and interests shape who you are. When you base your life and work—your career—on these elements, you can create a career path that feels right for you.

Career planning is a way of looking at your life and work. It guides you in making decisions and moving in the direction you want.

Talking with a career counsellor is a good way to begin the career planning process. Career counsellors can connect you with many education, training and employment opportunities.

For First Nations people

Ask about career counselling through your band or through the Indigenous Skills and Employment Training (ISET) Program provider in your area.

For Métis people

The Rupertsland Institute: Métis Centre of Excellence provides career and employment services provincewide, with full–time offices in Calgary, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Red Deer, Bonnyville, High Prairie, Medicine Hat and Slave Lake, and parttime offices and mobile services in additional locations.
