“Will the courses I’ve completed at one post-secondary school be transferable to another school?”

Answer

Many Alberta post-secondary schools accept transfers from other schools within and outside the province. However, not all courses are transferable. The school you are transferring to decides if it will give you credit for courses you have taken elsewhere.

Credit for academic courses completed in Canada

To find out if specific courses or programs will be accepted by your chosen school, start at Transfer Alberta. The Transfer Alberta search tool will ask you to select the school you’re transferring from, the year you’ve completed, the school you’re transferring to, and the name of your course. Once you’ve entered this information, it will show you if the course you’ve taken (or are planning to take) is transferable.

Keep in mind that transfer agreements can change, so be sure to confirm any Transfer Alberta–generated results with the school you’re transferring to.

If your school or course is not listed in the Transfer Alberta system, contact the school you want to attend for more information on how transfer credits are assessed.

Credit for academic courses completed outside of Canada

Post-secondary schools have their own requirements for approving transfers of courses completed outside of Canada. Check with the school you’ve chosen to find out what these requirements are. You will probably need to provide detailed course outlines as part of your application.

Credit for other types of learning

Your work and volunteer experience may count as credits for post-secondary studies in Alberta. Ask your school about the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition program before you apply.
