Alis Update For Career Advisors: March 2026

Nice to meet you

Alis is excited to connect with career advisors through the Western Canada Career Development Association. We wanted to introduce who we are and how we can assist you to help your clients reach their career goals.

Alis, pronounced—“Alice”—was once an acronym for Alberta Learning and Information Service. As the scope of alis expanded beyond education information, we’ve outgrown the acronym. We now use “alis” as our brand name and strive to make it a moniker that’s synonymous with career, education, and training information.

What does alis offer?

We offer tools and resources for students, job seekers, educators, and career development experts for every step of the career journey. While we cater the website to Albertans, our reach is far greater. In the last year, alis has seen approximately 14 million pageviews, including over 600,000 pageviews from British Columbia and thousands more from countries like Singapore, England, and the Philippines.

Alis helps students and job seekers plan their education, choose a career, find employment, and thrive at work. We also have targeted resources to assist specific audiences such as Indigenous people, people with disabilities, and newcomers to Canada.

Highlights of the site include:

  • Alis Tutorial Videos: Learn how to use the many features of the alis site, like creating an alis account, navigating job postings, and creating custom guides.

  • Inspire and Motivate Your Clients: Find resources to help your clients, students, children, and the people in your community as they plan and work toward their career goals.

  • Learn about the Labour Market: Find detailed information on occupations, including typical duties, salary, day-in-the-life videos, education and training requirements, current job postings, and more.

  • Career Planning: Explore career options and how to find one that’s right for you

  • Education and Training: Find info on post-secondary schools and programs, skills training, and apprenticeship

  • Job Search: Get advice on writing your resumé, succeeding in an interview, networking, and applying for work

  • Workplace Success: Learn about employment rights and standards, workplace safety, and how to advance your career

  • Specialized Support: Find resources for interprovincial work and diverse groups such as Indigenous people, mature workers, newcomers and people with disabilities

  • Interactive Tools: Do exercises to find your skills and interests, and complete worksheets to develop your career plan, prepare for interviews, and much more
