Tell us a little about yourself!
I am 17 years old and a first year JFR crew Member. You can likely find me participating in outdoor activities such as mountain biking, hiking, and running. As well, I have a big interest in many aspects of forestry especially after all JFR has shown me. I participate in many sports that have taught me the importance of values such as work ethic and leading by example. My favorite parts of this summer have been working in a team environment and doing our part in helping to improve the environment.
What is your dream job?
My dream job would be working with Olympic/professional athletes as a physical therapist or getting paid to hike and mountain bike. However, at this point in my career I see JFR as my dream job. This is because I am passionate about the outdoors and making a difference in the environment. JFR also has given me countless opportunities that will build my skillset for the future, and work in a positive team environment while doing so.
How has your experience been with JFR so far?
My JFR experience has been fantastic and life changing. I have learned a tremendous number of things in this program and JFR has exceeded my expectations. The opportunities to gain practical hands-on skills, as well as team and leadership skills on the job has been incredible. I have also enjoyed the traditional and modern educational opportunities teaching us how to be phenomenal stewards of the environment.
What is one stand out thing you have learned or completed through JFR?
One of the many things that have stood out to me through JFR has been learning about the variety of pathways in the field of agricultural and forestry. JFR has definitely opened my eyes and got my foot in the door for many different lanes. These opportunities stretch from jobs and volunteering in conservation to the many jobs involved in wildfire. Overall, it is hard to pick a single favorite thing of my JFR experience because of how many remarkable things I have learned and took part in.
What do you like most about your crewmates?
I whole heartedly loved my crew members this year, they are some fantastic people that help create an amazing group dynamic. The thing I liked most about my crew mates was their sense of humor, openness with one another, and eagerness to work hard and contribute to a team effort. For these reasons and more is why I think we have had such a successful crew this year.
