Harris is one of seven amazing first year members on the High Level crew for 2025!
Tell us a bit about yourself!
Hey, I'm Harris. I'm super happy to be the Jiffer of the week! Something about me is that I enjoy being outside whether it is skiing, mountain biking, or rock climbing. I love to spend time with my loved ones and meeting new people. I also joined the JFR program because I really want to pursue a career in firefighting or forestry. I have said for the longest time that I want to do something where I can change a person or persons life each day and have found that these two provide me with the best chance to do that.
What has been your favorite project or activity you’ve done with JFR so far?
So far, my favourite activity that we have done is touring the tanker base. It was so cool to learn about how precise they have to be, whether it be dumping the retardant at the perfect time or all special techniques they use to make sure the fire is put out in the smallest amount of time. I also really enjoy learning about all the old technology that they still use today.
Please describe your JFR leaders with a pop culture/musical reference / meme and explain why.
The best way to describe my crew leaders Tristan and Paige is they are like the parents of the crew. They are always working together to keep us in order. With Tristan acting like the cool dad and letting us have fun while also putting his foot down and always saying to check in with Paige. With Paige always doing the right thing and keeping us all together.
What would you say to someone who is thinking about applying to the program?
To anyone who is applying to the program for the next season I would say the most important thing to know is that this is going to be the most fun you will ever have making money in your life. What I mean by that is all the projects we have done so far are still definitely laborious and hard work but when you are doing it with great people who keep a smile on your face it definitely does not feel like it.
What do you want to do after high school?
So far, I have not completely decided on what I want to do after high school but I have a good idea. As I said, I really want to do something to help people. I have narrowed it down to firefighting or something in forestry. From there I will most likely go to school for forestry and see if that's what I really want to do. I am also in the fire cadets for the next school year which I am super excited about. With that I also look forward to doing more hiking trips and skiing with friends, working more, experiencing new things and especially meeting new people.
