Rowan

Rowan is one of six awesome first year members on the Grande Prairie crew for 2024!

Tell us a bit about yourself!

Hi, my name is Rowan, and I am from Edmonton. I just graduated high school and will continue my education through the carpentry program offered at NAIT this September! I am someone who has always enjoyed being outdoors. As someone who has been a part of Junior Forest Wardens for nearly twelve years now, I have been exposed to a lot of outdoor activities, such as shelter building, caving, repelling, lots of camping and survival training. I also often camp with my family in the Rockies, love dirt biking and dabble in video games.

How has your experience been so far with JFR?

I have loved being a member of the Junior Forest Rangers so far! I have had lots of fun spending time with my crew and creating really good friends over the summer. I have also managed to gain my level one chainsaw certificate, as well as my level three forklift certification! I never thought that I would ever get my forklift certification, but it has turned out to be a highlight of my summer!

What brings you joy?

What brings me joy is being able to spend quality time with my friends and family, especially over the summer. So far this summer has brought me a lot of joy! I also really love dirt biking, it is probably one of my favourite activities to do on long weekends or during the summer.

Describe what JFR means to you in 5 words or less!

The ultimate summer camp!

What has been your favourite project or activity you've done with JFR so far?

Although it is a relatively odd activity to do in the JFR program, it would definitely be my favourite and that is getting forklift certified! While my crew and I were in training we had so much fun whipping around the forklift and zooming around pylons! Also, now that I am forklift certified it brings new opportunities to make great jokes, as well as potential future job possibilities!

Thanks for sharing Rowan! If you want to keep up with the Grande Prairie Crew this summer, you can check out their video blogs here!
