What You Need

To become a registered veterinary technologist (RVT) in Alberta, you need:

Your application to the ABVMA is also your application to the ABVTA. You do not need to apply separately to the ABVTA.

There are other types of registration for veterinary technologists.

A limited practice registered veterinary technologist:

  • Has graduated from a non-accredited education program

  • Has completed all other requirements for an RVT

  • Can practise only within a limited animal species or category

A provisional veterinary technologist member:

  • Has met the education requirement for an RVT but has not yet completed the VTNE

  • Must practise under the direct supervision of a veterinarian, RVT, or limited RVT

For details about all registration requirements, contact the ABVMA or visit the ABVMA website.

Working in Alberta

Veterinary technologists who are registered and in good standing with a regulatory body elsewhere in Canada may be eligible for registration in Alberta.
