Meet a furniture mover
Bill is a furniture mover. He works for a moving company. He often works with another person.
Here are things that Bill does:
- He asks customers, “What do you want to move?”
- Sometimes he packs things for customers. He packs some things in boxes. He wraps some things in paper. He doesn’t want to break anything.
- He takes apart large pieces of furniture. For example, beds and bookshelves.
- He puts small rugs (runners) on the floors. He doesn’t want to damage the floors.
- He carries boxes, furniture and equipment to the moving van.
- He loads the moving van. He is very careful. He puts heavy things on the bottom.
- He makes a list of all the things going into the van. He also takes photos.
- He accepts payment from customers. He gives customers a receipt.
- He unloads the moving van. He checks the list. He wants to make sure everything is off the van. He asks the customer to check too.
- He puts large furniture back together. He cleans up.

What is a furniture mover’s work like?
Bill works a lot from May to September. He is less busy in the winter.
Bill stands, lifts and bends a lot at work. He and his coworker go from place to place. Bill sits in the truck while his coworker drives.
Bill and another mover move heavy furniture together. Some furniture can weigh over 55 kilograms (over 120 pounds). They must lift carefully. They don’t want to hurt themselves.
Bill wears a uniform shirt and a name tag.
