Tackle the World's Mean Machines If you're itching to work on farm equipment, commercial vehicles or heavy machinery, the one-year Agricultural and Heavy Equipment Technician certificate can get you into a mechanic position in a hurry. This one-year program equips you with the knowledge, experience and hours needed to start working right away and continue on to an apprenticeship. In just two semesters, you'll get training on everything you need to know to work on the steel giants of our modern society. Our well-equipped shop facilities have the latest in diagnostic technologies and tools. You'll test your skills working on a wide range of on and off-road vehicles and farm equipment.

Admission Requirements

General Admission Requirements: All applicants must meet the general admission requirements for Lethbridge College programs, as indicated in the Admissions section of the calendar.  

Academic Requirements:  Applicants to this program do not require a high school diploma; however, they must satisfy the following specific course requirements (or equivalencies):

  • Grade 11 English
  • Grade 11 Math

The following courses or subjects are recommended for the best possible outcome in the Agricultural and Heavy Equipment Technician program:

  • Physics, Chemistry and Science
  • Grade 12 Math and English

Note: Applicants who lack the required academic admission requirements can apply to the Academic Upgrading program.

Prior Learning Assessment (PLA): If you have experience working in this field of study, you may be eligible for Prior Learning Assessment.

Application Deadline

New students are accepted into the Agricultural and Heavy Equipment Technician program for the Fall (September) term with a late August program start date.


Student Aid

This program is eligible for full-time post-secondary assistance by Alberta Student Aid for the funding year 2024/08/01 to 2025/07/31*.

  • Tuition $6,930.00 Year One
  • Mandatory Fees $2,237.00 Year One
  • Books/Supplies/Instruments $1,000.00 Year One

* Tuition, books, supplies, instruments, and other/mandatory fees are provided to Alberta Student Aid and may be used when processing full-time post-secondary funding applications. The educational costs provided are based on a 100% full-course load and may not reflect current or all educational costs charged by the school.
