Steamfitter-pipefitter is a provincially regulated and certification required Red Seal trade, meaning individuals must hold recognized certification as a journeyman or be a registered apprentice to work in this trade. Portage College's Steamfitter-Pipefitter Apprenticeship program offers the theoretical knowledge and skill development required for steamfitter-pipefitter certification. The term of the apprenticeship includes 4 periods of classroom instruction, each period spanning over 8 weeks, and covers the theoretical knowledge and practical application in a lab setting that represents industry standards.
