The Biological, Life, and Health Sciences specialization (BLHS) is a focused program of study (similar to a major or minor in an undergraduate degree) in the Arts & Sciences diploma (ASD) program. As part of their graduation requirements, learners who specialize in the Biological, Life, and Health Sciences stream will take a minimum of 24 credits from a specific set of electives in related subject areas, including: biology, chemistry, health, Indigenous studies, and psychology.

Admission Requirements

Language Arts – This requirement can be met with any of the following, or an equivalent course: 

  • 60% in English Language Arts 30-1 
  • 70% in English Language Arts 30-2 
  • 65% in ESLG 1860 
  • 75% in ESLG 1898 

Mathematics – This requirement can be met with any of the following, or an equivalent course: 

  • 50% in Mathematics 30-1 
  • 50% in Mathematics 30-2 

Biology – This requirement can be met with the following, or an equivalent course: 

  • 50% in Biology 30 

Chemistry – This requirement can be met with the following, or an equivalent course: 

  • 50% in Chemistry 30 

Note: Other courses in the Arts & Sciences: BLHS diploma program may have additional pre- and co-requisites, including high school (or equivalent) requirements. With support from the Academic Program Advisor, students will review individual course descriptions for any additional requirements. Students who do not have the necessary high school pre-requisites can take equivalent courses through Academic Upgrading concurrently with other ASD program requirements.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

Acceptable evidence of ELP may be one of the following test scores:

  • IELTS Academic: 6.5, with no section score below 6
  • TOEFL iBT: 84; no section score below 21
  • Cambridge English Language Assessment: 180; no section score below 165
  • CAEL: 70; no section score below 70
  • PTE Academic: 59; no section score below 56
  • Duolingo: 115
  • minimum of:
    •  80% in ESLS 8000 or ESLS 8100, and 80% in ESLW 8000 or ESLW 8100; or
    • 50% in ESLG 1898 and ESLG 1899
    • 50% in ESLG 1860 and ESLG 1861

Note: ELP is a separate requirement from the English academic admission requirement.
