Northwestern Polytechnic

Northwestern Polytechnic

nwpolytech.ca
Northwestern Polytechnic's four-year Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree has two specializations: elementary education and secondary education. Within the secondary education specialization, students can choose an emphasis in Humanities, STEM, or Physical Education while also choosing from a wide variety of electives from departments throughout NWP. The BEd is designed to prepare students to become effective and confident teaching professionals while meeting the Teaching Quality Standard for teacher certification in Alberta. Students will gain a deep understanding of educational theory, curriculum design and teaching methodologies, with a focus on equity, diversity and inclusion within a Northern context. The program has a unique emphasis on praxis where theories and skills are put into action and reflected upon. Strong partnerships with local and rural school divisions allow for preservice teachers to engage in experiential learning through ongoing internships and culminating field experiences.
