The Bridge to Canadian Nursing program offers flexible learning options for those who wish to update their currency of practice (re-enter or refresh) and those who require more extensive learning to support their transition to Canadian nursing practice. The program prepares nurses to meet entry-level competencies for Registered Nursing (RN) practice. Learners who complete the entire 27-credit program will be awarded a certificate.

Admission Requirements

CATEGORIES OF ADMISSION

Applicants may be admitted to one of the following:

Regular Admission

To be evaluated through the Office of the University Registrar

Applicants must present one of the following:

1. A recognized nursing credential from an eligible country and meet the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) requirement(s) to participate in the program.

OR

2. Current registration as a Registered Nurse in Canada.

ADDITIONAL ADMISSION CRITERIA

All applicants must meet the following:

1. English Language Proficiency

To be evaluated through the Office of the University Registrar

Applicable to all admission categories

All applicants must meet an acceptable level of English language proficiency. We will require official documents such as high school or post-secondary transcripts or proof of successful completion of standardized language evaluation. Full details are available in MacEwan University’s academic calendar or online at MacEwan.ca/ELP.

2. Spoken English Proficiency

To be evaluated through the Office of the University Registrar

Applicable to all admission categories

Applicants who speak English as a second language – regardless of citizenship – are required to submit official documents such as high school, post-secondary transcripts or proof of successful completion of standardized language evaluation. Full details are available in MacEwan University’s academic calendar or online at MacEwan.ca/ELP.

3. Other Admission Criteria

Applicable to all admission categories

Applicants offered admission are required to submit the following:

A clear Police Information Check (or equivalent from another policing agency) that includes a Vulnerable Sector Search. The Police Information Check must be submitted by the published document deadline and have been issued within three months of the start of the program intake term.


Student Aid

This program is eligible for full-time post-secondary assistance by Alberta Student Aid for the funding year 2023/08/01 to 2024/07/31*.

  • Tuition $5,520.00 Year One
  • Mandatory Fees $1,502.00 Year One
  • Books/Supplies/Instruments $1,150.00 Year One

* Tuition, books, supplies, instruments, and other/mandatory fees are provided to Alberta Student Aid and may be used when processing full-time post-secondary funding applications. The educational costs provided are based on a 100% full-course load and may not reflect current or all educational costs charged by the school.
