Certificate Teaching Chinese as a Second Language

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Calgary offers a new certificate program in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. The certificate is a 15-unit program, providing learners with essential knowledge, skills, and experiences to teach Chinese (i.e., Mandarin) professionally and effectively. Courses will be taught in English and Chinese, and students from any discipline whose Chinese has reached the level of Chinese 303 or above (native Chinese speakers included) are eligible for the program.

Admission Requirements
  • Students are eligible to apply for an undergraduate certificate after completion of 12 units or more of academic course work from a recognized/accredited institution. 
  • The minimum admission GPA requirement is 2.00. 
  • Applicant’s Chinese language proficiency will be evaluated using standard placement procedures for Chinese courses, unless they have successfully completed Chinese 303 or higher.
