Admission Requirements
Standard Admission: - Applicants must have a Canadian grade 12 High School Diploma. - English 30-1, English 30-2 with a final minimum mark of 60% or equivalent. - Has submitted a completed Columbia College application. - Successfully pass an admissions interview to determine suitability for the profession and opportunity for success in the program. Mature Admission: - An applicant who does not possess a Canadian high school diploma may be considered for admission as a mature student if: - Is 19 years of age prior to the date of registration; - out of high school for one year; - Has submitted a completed Columbia College application; - Must achieve satisfactory results on the Columbia College Assessment or equivalent in Reading Comprehension and Writing; - Successfully pass an admissions interview to determine suitability for the profession and opportunity for success in the program. Additional Requirements: - Attend Columbia College's Dental Assistant Professional Program Orientation prior to the start of the program; - Attend and successfully complete Columbia College's College Skills for Success COLL110 course prior to the start of the program (or approval given to proceed from the Office of the Registrar. Once an applicant has met the academic admission requirements, the student will be required to provide proof of the following prior to the start of classes/clinic: - Submit a CPR level BLS (Basic Life Support) certificate; - Dentist verification that all immediate dental treatment has been completed and that the student is in good oral health - Verification from health professional that the student has been immunized against Hepatitis B, MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) and has undergone Tuberculosis screening. English Language Proficiency Requirements: The following are the Language Proficiency Requirements for admission to Columbia College for students whose first language is not English and/or who have been educated in another country where English was not the language of instruction. Columbia College's Required College Prep English course, ENGL102, with a score of B or 75% TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - minimum of 20 in each category IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic - 6 in each category CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks/Milestones) - 8 in each strand Columbia College ESL820 level course - 80% Columbia College Benchmark Testing - 8 in each strand Accuplacer English Test - SS 85, RC 80, WR 6+ IQAS - Formal Assessment - Alberta Education English Language Arts equivalents OR: Successful completion of an Alberta English Language Arts course comparable to the specified academic achievement requirements. Successful completion of 3 years of full-time secondary education where English was the language of instruction. Successful completion of one year full-time post-secondary where English was the language of instruction. Successful completion of a post-secondary level English course with a minimum grade of a C or 65% International Student Program Fees: $26,979 Materials: $0 Books: $0
