The new 8-month Health Care Aide (HCA) program will prepare learners to work in the health care industry as a valued member of a health care team. Health Care Aides are unregulated health care workers who provide personal support and basic health services directly to patients who are ill, elderly, or have a disability, and those who require short-term assistance or ongoing support in hospitals, continuing care facilities, acute care facilities, and also within patient/client home settings.

Admission Requirements

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Language Arts – this requirement can be met with any of the following, or an equivalent course:
    • 60% in English Language Arts 20-2
    • 55% in English Language Arts 30-2

Note: Academic admission requirements are different from English language proficiency (ELP) requirements. 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS

You must provide proof of ELP prior to admission. ELP test results must have been obtained within two years of the start date of your program.

Acceptable evidence of ELP may be one of the following test scores:

  • IELTS Academic: 6; no section score below 5.5
  • TOEFL iBT: 71
  • Duolingo: 105

This program is eligible for full-time post-secondary assistance by Alberta Student Aid for the funding year 2020/08/01 to 2021/07/31*.
