The MLAD (Co-op) program prepares learners for entry-level data and machine learning jobs creating business-driven solutions for companies of all sizes. It focuses on developing fundamental skills in data science and machine learning and will help provide you with the business acumen to work in multi-disciplinary teams, developing competitive business solutions by applying current strategies and tools. This program was developed as part of the Alberta AI Pathways Partnership, making it industry relevant and creating strategic pathways for learners. The program prepares you for AI-related careers through multiple work-integrated learning experiences, including a 4-month work placement with a local employer partner. During this work placement and through our work-integrated learning courses you will work on real-world data problems with local businesses, developing a portfolio to prepare you for employment in this growing field. Students are likely to be successful if they:  love solving logic puzzles or strategy-based games  enjoy learning math and programming skills  have creative minds and look forward to careers where they thrive in innovative companies developing interesting business solutions

Admission Requirements

Academic requirements

  • Language Arts – This requirement can be met with any of the following, or an equivalent course:
    • 60% in English Language Arts 30-1
    • 60% in ESLG 1860
    • 70% in English Language Arts 30-2
    • 70% in ESLG 1898
  • Mathematics – This requirement can be met with any of the following, or an equivalent course:
    • 50% in Mathematics 30-1
    • 50% in Mathematics 30-2
                  OR
  • Academic Assessment - Applicants who have submitted an application may be able to meet their academic requirements with a free assessment. Click here for more details or email student.advisor@norquest.ca to meet with an advisor.

Note: Academic admission requirements are different from English language proficiency requirements. NorQuest College English for Academic Purposes courses may be used to meet both requirements.

If English is your second language, you must provide proof of English language proficiency before admission. These results must be no more than two years old when you start your program.

  • CAEL: 70; no section score below 70
  • PTE Academic: 59; no section score below 56
