The Master of Information Security and Privacy (MISP) is a course-based, professional master's program that will provide specialized, high-level training to (a) those working in the field of information security who require a relevant graduate credential to progress in their career; (b ) professionals who wish to shift their career from other computer science fields into the area of information security; and (c) recent graduates from an undergraduate computer science program or related degree who desire a professional master's degree prior to entering the job market. The MISP will ensure that graduates possess the knowledge and skills necessary to enter and/or progress in the constantly evolving field of information security.

Admission Requirements

In addition to Faculty of Graduate Studies requirements, admission to the Information Security and Privacy programs requires:

a) A four-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized institution.

b) Successful completion of an undergraduate course in each of the following areas:

  • Computer programming with understanding of execution environments (e.g., Computer Science 233 or equivalent)
  • Algorithms and data structures (e.g., Computer Science 331 or equivalent)
  • Either Operating systems (e.g., Computer Science 457 or equivalent); or Computer networks (e.g., Computer Science 441 or equivalent).

c) Two letters of reference.

d) Resume or CV.

e) Optional letter of intent.


Student Aid

This program is eligible for full-time post-secondary assistance by Alberta Student Aid for the funding year 2023/08/01 to 2024/07/31*.
