Bruno

Bruno is one of seven incredible members on the Hinton crew for 2026!

Tell us a bit about yourself!
I’ve lived in Calgary my whole life, spending lots of time in the outdoors. I’m a seventeen-year-old recent graduate who wanted to learn more forestry skills. I like to spend my free time playing hockey, skiing, hiking, or hanging out with friends.

What is the biggest thing you learned from being a JFR Crew Member?
I have learned the importance of proper safety and communication. I’ve also learned that there are a lot of people my age with similar values and a passion for the outdoors.

Please describe your JFR leaders & Senior Crew Member with a pop culture/musical reference / meme and explain why.
Donald:
If he were an artist, he would be Freddie Mercury working on his stash before a big show. He would be walking out to perform "Under Pressure" because the man always had something to worry about and on his mind.
Andres: He would be a guide from Jurassic Park. His endless knowledge of insects and animals comes in very handy, teaching us things that we never would’ve learned. His energetic personality fits the role perfectly. Once it’s work time, he puts on a stern face, so we know to get the job done.
Aiden: If he were a TV show character, he would be Scully from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Most of the time, he is eating all our snacks and watching us do all the work. We love him a lot, but he’s gotta slow down on the snacks.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about applying to the program?
I would tell them that if they want to have the best summer ever, they should join. If the person enjoys being outside and wants to learn many new skills, this is the best way. If they are looking for a future in the outdoors, this is the best introduction for them.

What has been your favorite project or activity you’ve done with JFR so far and why?
I’ve really enjoyed doing trail maintenance/building. The whole team collaborates really well to make it the best we can. Knowing that the work we put in will be appreciated by many others is a very rewarding feeling.
