Sample Employment Reference Letter

A good reference letter lets potential employers see how someone will fit their needs. Employment reference letters talk about a candidate’s work history.

Sometimes they need a letter that addresses a specific job. In other cases, a more general letter such as this one can be used to apply to different positions.

To Whom It May Concern:

Michelle Wan has been my executive assistant for the past four years.

Michelle keeps the operations in my high-stress, fast-paced office flowing smoothly. This involves constant customer contact, interpreting strategy for senior staff in my absence and keeping me on task.  She is organized, outgoing, highly competent and an excellent communicator. Michelle redesigned the office scheduling system, allowing staff to be more efficient and better informed. She completes all of her work with warmth, insight and professionalism.

Having earned a B.Comm. degree last spring, Michelle is seeking a position that challenges her growing skills and abilities. I regret that we have no such position to offer her at ABC Logic Systems. Our loss will be another’s gain.

I highly recommend Michelle Wan. Should you wish to contact me, please do not hesitate to call.

Yours truly,

Anna Jones
President and CEO
