Tasks

  • Align and manipulate sections of pipe or drill stem from a platform on the rig derrick
  • Drive well services truck to well site
  • Train and supervise floorhands, assistants and helpers
  • Attach pumps and hoses to wellhead
  • Operate and maintain drilling mud systems and pumps
  • Write daily basic progress reports
  • Operate hydraulic pumping systems
  • Record mud flows and volumes and take samples
  • Operate and maintain drilling rig diesel motors, transmissions and other mechanical equipment
  • Read gauges to interpret conditions and adjust pumping procedure
  • Assist in setting up, taking down and transporting drilling and service rigs
  • Mix chemicals and cements
  • Use specialized equipment to determine the location of buried pipelines and other utilities in preparation for seismic exploration and drilling activities
