- Read blueprints to determine dimensions of structure or system and material requirements
- Participate in field surveys, inspections or technical investigations
- Prepare construction specifications, costs and material estimates
- Supervise or conduct field surveys, inspections, technical investigations and testing of construction materials
- Participate in field checks and verification
- Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports
- Establish and monitor construction work schedules
- Prepare documents showing both the structural needs and the materials required for construction
