Scientists in demand Currently, Canada is not producing enough scientists to be globally competitive, but federal and provincial governments are taking steps to alleviate this problem. For example, the Alberta Science and Research Authority plans to grow the province's involvement in life sciences by 20% by 2010. Mount Royal's B.Sc. is designed to help meet the high demand for scientists locally and nationally. Environmental science is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on the application of science to the study of the environment and the solutions to environmental problems. As the new third wave of environmental concern spurs global environmental awareness and green job growth, Mount Royal University continues to offer environmental programs to keep pace with these changes. For over thirty-five years Mount Royal has attempted to meet the environmental education demands of students and employers in industry, government and environmental non-governmental organizations.
