The Community Support Worker program is a 10 month, 35 credit post-secondary certificate designed to provide workforce relevant skills and experience for frontline support workers for one of the following communities: the Aboriginal community; the Immigrant Community; Disability Community. The program is a unique certificate offering in the Edmonton area.The program offers core courses in term 1, followed by the opportunity to choose among three specialization streams. In addition to providing specialization streams serving three distinct communities, it will offer a Community-based Service Learning opportunity for students - unique among Edmonton PSE certificate offerings

Admission Requirements

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Language Arts – this requirement can be met with any of the following, or an equivalent course:
    • 60% in English Language Arts 30-1
    • 60% in English Language Arts 30-2
    • 60% in ESLG 1860
    • 60% in ESLG 1898

Note: Academic admission requirements are different from English language proficiency (ELP) requirements. NorQuest College English for Academic Purposes courses may be used to meet both requirements. 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS

You must provide proof of ELP prior to admission. ELP test results must have been obtained within two years of the start date of your program.

Acceptable evidence of ELP may be one of the following test scores:

  • IELTS Academic: 6.5; no section score below 6
  • TOEFL iBT: 84; no section score below 21
  • Cambridge English Language Assessment: 180; no section score below 165
  • CAEL: 70; no section score below 70
  • PTE Academic: 59; no section score below 56
  • Duolingo: 115

Student Aid

This program is eligible for full-time post-secondary assistance by Alberta Student Aid for the funding year 2023/08/01 to 2024/07/31*.

  • Books/Supplies/Instruments $414.69 Year One

* Tuition, books, supplies, instruments, and other/mandatory fees are provided to Alberta Student Aid and may be used when processing full-time post-secondary funding applications. The educational costs provided are based on a 100% full-course load and may not reflect current or all educational costs charged by the school.
