The Early Learning and Child Care diploma program at Northern Lakes College will give you the training needed to work in this rewarding career. Individuals are trained to work with children from birth to twelve years of age in settings such as daycares, preschool or after-school programs, and private dayhomes. Graduates of the Early Learning and Child Care Diploma program will develop the skills to work effectively with children with exceptionalities, and will be prepared for administrative and supervisory positions within the field.

Admission Requirements

Successful completion of an Early Learning and Child Care Certificate program.

Fluency in English (refer to International Student Information);

Pre-Program Considerations: Practicum agencies may require an up-to-date Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) and an Alberta Children's Services Intervention Record Check of students placed in their organizations. The inability to present clear checks means a student may not be able to complete the requirements of the program. Contact the Program Coordinator for further information. Students are required to sign and submit a Criminal Record Check Declaration of Understanding form prior to the first day of classes.

 

Distance Delivery Options

This program is delivered online using Blackboard Collaborate and Moodle.


Application Deadline

Applications must be submitted at least 4 weeks prior to the term start date. Applications received with less than 4 weeks from the term start date will be processed for the next available start date.  Payment and course registration are required at least 10 business days prior to the term start date.

Applications are reviewed and accepted on a continuous basis.  Space is limited in some courses and applications are accepted on a first qualified, first served basis. If funding is required, applicants are advised to apply early to allow time to complete application processes and arrangements for funding.

Note: Students attending the program part time may enter 3 times per year (September, January, and May). Students applying to the program full time may enter 2 times per year (September and January).
