The demand of Emergency Medical Services practitioners in Alberta is on the rise. Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) are increasingly in demand in industry, police and fire services. An essential component of the Canadian emergency medical system, the EMR may be the sole provider of emergency medical care in rural and remote areas.

As an EMR, yours will be an important role to assess and treat patients in medical and trauma emergencies. You will be responsible for initial scene survey, patient stabilization, trauma and medical patient care, pharmacology, AED administration and oxygen therapy. You’ll work collaboratively with physicians, paramedics, fire services and search and rescue.

NAIT’s EMR Training provides an entry point into the EMS field or can be a rewarding career on its own. Theoretical components are complemented by practical hands-on training, providing students with basic life support skills and realistic experience in the emergency medical care industry. Upon successful completion of the EMR program, students will receive a NAIT certificate and be eligible to write the Alberta College of Paramedics provincial exam.
