Map Out Your Future If you have a talent for visualizing ideas and bringing them to life on paper (or screen), the Engineering Design Technology program is the perfect place to build your future. Design and drafting technologists play a vital role in engineering and construction, and our program equips you with the knowledge and hands-on experience to excel in this field. Through a dynamic combination of theory and practical training, you'll gain a solid understanding of design and drafting principles. You'll learn to create detailed drawings, plans and diagrams, using advanced 3D computer-aided drafting (CAD) technology and 3D printing to transform your ideas into tangible designs. The program covers a wide range of disciplines, including architecture, civil engineering and mechanical engineering. You'll have the opportunity to work on diverse projects such as building designs, subdivisions, infrastructure development, process designs for natural gas plants and mechanical assemblies.

Admission Requirements

General Admission Requirements: All applicants must meet the general admission requirements for Lethbridge Polytech programs, as indicated in the Admissions section of the calendar.


Academic Requirements: In addition to meeting the general admission requirements indicated in the Admission section of this calendar, applicants to this program must also satisfy the following specific course requirements (or equivalencies):

  • a minimum grade of 50 percent in Grade 12 Math (equivalent to Alberta’s Math 30-1) or 60 percent in Grade 12 Math (equivalent to Alberta’s Math 30-2)
  • Grade 11 Physics or Grade 12 Science

Please note that Grade 12 Biology and/or Grade 12 Chemistry will not be accepted in lieu of Grade 12 Science.

Basic understanding of computer technology such as word processing, file copying, and familiarity working in a Windows-based environment are required.

Practicum Experience Requirements: There is an elective practicum component to this program. The Lethbridge Polytech dictates the legal terms and conditions governing the practicum experience.

Note: Applicants who lack the required academic admission requirements can apply to the Academic Upgrading program to upgrade for your program.

Prior Learning Assessment (PLA): If you have experience working in this field of study, you may be eligible for Prior Learning Assessment.

Mobile Learning Program: This is a Mobile Learning Program and requires students to supply their own device with required minimum specifications. Go to our website for additional information.


Application Deadline

New applicants are accepted into the Engineering Design Technology program for the Fall (September) term.


Student Aid

This program is eligible for full-time post-secondary assistance by Alberta Student Aid for the funding year 2025/08/01 to 2026/07/31*.

  • Tuition $6,448.00 Year One
  • Books/Supplies/Instruments $3,500.00 Year One
  • Mandatory Fees $1,686.00 Year One

* Tuition, books, supplies, instruments, and other/mandatory fees are provided to Alberta Student Aid and may be used when processing full-time post-secondary funding applications. The educational costs provided are based on a 100% full-course load and may not reflect current or all educational costs charged by the school.
