Imagination Immersed. If creating an immersive environment captivates you, it's time to enrol in the Virtual and Augmented Reality program. You'll learn to convert your imagination into immersive reality using the latest technology. This certificate program provides you with knowledge in spatial media, experiential design, production fundamentals, entrepreneurial skills and industry interaction. Through a balance of technology and theory, you'll learn the fundamentals of extended reality design, 3D asset creation, spatial media production, sound design, real-time game engines and coding. You'll produce immersive experiences while working with industry members from a wide range of sectors. Immerse yourself in this one-year program.

Admission Requirements

General Admission Requirements: All applicants must meet the general admission requirements for Lethbridge College programs, as indicated in the Admissions section of the calendar.

Practicum Experience Requirements: There is a required practicum component to this program. The College dictates the legal terms and conditions governing the practicum experience.

Note: Applicants who lack the required academic admission requirements can apply to the Academic Upgrading program.

Prior Learning Assessment (PLA): If you have experience working in this field of study, you may be eligible for Prior Learning Assessment.

Other Required Supplies: Students will be required to purchase the following:

  • a Head Mounted Display (HMD); students should check with instructors for specific HMD requirements
  • an external USB 0 SSD hard disk drive
  • a gaming PC

Distance Delivery Options

Courses may be offered in a variety of formats. The format in which a course is offered may change at short notice, depending on enrolment and student needs. The current delivery formats may include on campus/face-to-face (you will attend class at a scheduled time and location. An instructor will be physically present to assist you); online (the course is delivered entirely in an online environment); or, blended (the course is delivered through a mixture of face-to-face and online).

Admissions: New applicants are accepted into the Virtual and Augmented Reality certificate program for the Fall (September) term.


Student Aid

This program is eligible for full-time post-secondary assistance by Alberta Student Aid for the funding year 2024/08/01 to 2025/07/31*.

  • Books/Supplies/Instruments $4,450.00 Year One
  • Mandatory Fees $1,597.00 Year One

The educational costs provided are based on a 100% full-course load and may not reflect current or all educational costs charged by the school.
