Kaitlyn

Kaitlyn is one of six super first year members on the Fox Creek crew for 2024!

Tell us a bit about yourself!

Yellow! My name is Kaitlyn and I’m from Leduc. I enjoy reading books and listening to all kinds of music. I want to help others as much as I can, which is why I plan to have a career as a structural firefighter/paramedic.

How has your experience been so far with JFR?

It's been fantastic! I never imagined that this early in life I would be able to gain experience such as this. It has been amazing to be able to spend so much time outside and in nature. I'm not the best at handling bugs. So thankfully, this program has made me learn how to deal with them —especially the spiders.

What brings you joy?

When I think of joy, I think of those most important to me. Spending quality time and making everlasting memories with my family and friends. Going on adventures, experiencing new things with those I love always brings me never ending joy.

Describe what JFR means to you in 5 words or less!

Creation of a 2nd family

What has been your favourite project or activity you’ve done with JFR so far?

It’s a close tie between going to the Whitecourt lookout tower or training with the Fox Creek Fire Department. The lookout tower was a great challenge, climbing up 100 feet in the wind and back down 100 feet. I really enjoyed the view, more so outside on the ladder than in the cupula. But the training with the fire department is something I personally really enjoyed as it is extremely similar to what I want for my career. Working with an actually Fire Department, seeing their tips and tricks for specific situations was really exciting.
