The Foundations For Learning specialization offers a variety of courses that students can select depending on their needs. The courses offered will be divided into two categories: 1. Preparation for Careers and Workforce: GED Preparation, Trades Preparation, Preparation for Practical Nursing Math and Essential Skills These courses focus on specific skills related to specific careers. Students who wish to take the above course offerings already have a specific career in mind and the training provided is designed to ladder into these careers. 2. Preparation for further Academic Upgrading and/or ESL training: pre-high school mathematics, English preparation and ESL intermediate reading and writing These courses focus on the outcomes required to compete for a broad range of post-secondary programs. Most of the students choosing these courses wish to obtain the pre-requisites to a variety of certificates, diplomas and degrees offered at post-secondary institutions.

Admission Requirements

It is recommended that applicants take a NorQuest placement assessment to determine the appropriate levels of study.

English Language Proficiency
You must provide proof of English language proficiency (ELP) prior to admission. ELP test results must be obtained within two years of the start date of your program. Acceptable evidence of ELP for this program is:

  • CLBA: no section score below 5
  • IELTS Academic: 5
  • TOEFL iBT: 40
  • CELPIP General: 5
  • Duolingo:85
  • Minimum of 80% in ESLS 5000/ESLS 5100 and ESLW 5000/ESLW 5100
