Admission Requirements
Standard Admission:  Alberta high school Diploma, verified through transcript, or non-Alberta equivalent  At least 75% in each of the following courses or equivalents: o Math 30-1, Math 30-2, or Pure Math 30, o English Language Arts 30-1, o Biology 30, o Physics 30  Meet English Proficiency requirements (below)  Academic Ranking  Interview  Applicants with prior MCG Career College credentials with a minimum of 70% may be given special consideration for the interview shortlist  Final selection is based on interview scores.  Completion of Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Pharmacology with a minimum of 70%(120 hour course) Mature Admission:  Must be 18 years or older.  Interview  Completion of Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Pharmacology with a minimum of 70%( 120 hour course)  Completion of Canadian Achievement Test - 4th edition grade 11-12 equivalency and will require the candidates to achieve in the top 50 percentile of students across Canada. OR Professional health designation with a regulated college, must provide registration documents and academic transcripts OR Completed credential in a health profession with a minimum of 70% average. All Candidates Admission Police Information Check, inclusive of Vulnerable Sector Search According to the Protection for Persons in Care Act, our clinical partners require a clear Police Information Check (PIG) including Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS). Any criminal code offence for which a pardon has not been received may be a deterrent to a student's entry into practicum or even the program. In cases where a PIG or VSS is not clear, the College Dean will conduct a formal assessment to determine whether the student would be permitted to enter the program. Basic Life Support Students are required to provide proof of completion of the Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support Provider course. Students need to maintain current BLS certification throughout the practicum. Computer Literacy Students are required to be computer literate for success within this program. The program utilizes blended learning approaches and harnesses the benefits of technology throughout the program. This includes, but not limited to work processing, spreadsheet creation, utilization of a learning management system, email management and web-based activities. Health Requirement This program may be difficult for any students with arm, back, shoulder, wrist or neck problems, due the nature of activities required while preforming the duties of a sonographer. College staff would be happy to discuss with students that are concerned in this area. It would be also be advisable to contact your family physician to consult. Immunizations Students are required to provide proof of immunization status. Without complete and acceptable immunization status practicum sites may refuse to accept students on practicums, which could prevent successful completion of the program. English Proficiency Requirements: CLB Milestones Test - 7 in each strand IELTS Academic 5.5 with a minimum band score of 5 TOEFL 71 IQAS - Formal assessment Alberta Education High School English Course Alberta Education English Language Arts equivalents 60% in English Language Arts 10-1 or English Language Arts 10-2. Test and transcript results are valid for two years from the day of testing or completion of a course. Results that expire prior to the Start Date of the program may not be accepted. Official results must be submitted. Selection requirements for all candidates successfully meeting admissions:  Interview to assess suitability for the program  Attendance to college program orientation
