Northern Alberta Institute of Technology

Northern Alberta Institute of Technology

www.nait.ca
We heard from industry experts that they wanted Event Management graduates to have a broad base and depth of information relative to the event Industry. Students can draw from a wide variety of courses increasing their suitability for industry employment.

Lifelong learners are current with industry trends, cultural perspectives, and technology, weaving those strengths into each project. Event Managers are versatile in their abilities to lead, strategize, collaborate, and facilitate stakeholder-defined outcome targets. Able to understand shifting demographics an Event Management graduate  will maintain healthy industry relationships while attracting, motivating, and retaining industry partners, staff, and volunteers. Once students have completed their 175 hours, there will be a capstone project for them to complete that will integrate all of their learnings into a final project.

The industry experts helped us to determine the outcomes of the Event Management Program to ensure that graduates of the program will be able to:

  • Generate and integrate creative ideas that translate into experiences that fulfill stakeholder requests
  • Implement event management tools and industry processes required to execute and evaluate an event as defined by stakeholders
  • Create and implement an adaptable integrated marketing communication strategy specific to an event
  • Build, manage, and maintain relationships that reflect professional and ethical leadership
Students may choose a stream of courses to create a specialization. There are a group of compulsory courses and a capstone project that is focused on a particular aspect of the events industry. One specialization is in Event Management Program Planning. The compulsory courses are made up of Human Resource Management, Writing Event Proposals, Creative Concepts, Venue Selection and Design, Food and Beverage, Program Creation, Creating Critical Paths and Production Schedules and Green Meetings and Corporate Social Responsibility.
