The University of Calgary Master of Physician Assistant Studies program seeks applicants with a strong academic background and a commitment to success in a rigorous program. The admissions committee will consider each applicant’s strengths while selecting the best qualified candidates who align with the program’s mission.
Admissions requirements for the Master of Physician Assistant Studies program include:
- Completion of a four-year baccalaureate degree from an institution recognized by the University of Calgary. Students in their final year of study in a baccalaureate degree program may apply. Applicants will require a minimum GPA of 3.20 (on the University of Calgary four-point system) calculated over the most recent 60 units completed. All grades within a term will be included except where the number of courses taken within a term exceeds that required to fulfill the maximum of 60 units, in which case the highest grades will be used.
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or an individual with refugee status in Canada.
- Prior client-facing health care experience. This may include direct hands-on patient care experience in a clinical setting, clinical placements in healthcare education programs, or volunteer experience. Applicants will be required to list the number of hours, location of experience, and role, as well as provide a verifier name and phone number.
- Provision of two referees (including names, contact information and phone number(s) of referees) who can complete a reference form in support of their applications. The letters of recommendation should address the applicant’s suitability for the program, professionalism, integrity, and motivation. Referees should preferably have a professional email address. Prior employers, professional colleagues, and academic advisors are acceptable references.
- A personal essay (500 words maximum) for either the Regular Admissions Pathway or the Parallel Admissions Pathway indicating what skills and attributes the applicant possesses to succeed in the program, and how the applicant sees their future role as a Physician Assistant.
