Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements: Hold a 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency.


Distance Delivery Options

Northern Lakes College offers Power Engineering specializations 3rd, 4th and 5th Class as an online learning program supported by recorded lectures, online quizzes and exams with tutorial sessions as required delivered through internet conferencing. The students will study from their selected location and at their own preferred time of day but with specific deadlines to meet. An industrial tour in the Slave Lake / High Prairie region and a one-day lab session at SAIT or NAIT are included in, and funded by, the program. Access to a high speed internet connected computer with speakers or headset and microphone is required. If you opt to register as a full time student you will have 8 months to complete the program. Those who register as part time students have up to 12 months to complete.


Application Deadline

Applications are processed on a continuous basis, but in order to allow for post-acceptance processing, the following deadlines will be used (excluding exceptional circumstances):

Application deadline: Four weeks prior to offering start date (if applicant misses deadline his/her application will be considered for next available offering).

Rregistration deadline: Two weeks prior to offering start date (if accepted applicant misses deadline his/her application will be closed and he/she will be welcome to reapply for the next available and/or suitable offering)

Note:  Applicants who register before registration deadline will be able to start as soon as they receive their books/PETS access (often before program start date).


Student Aid

This program is eligible for full-time post-secondary assistance by Alberta Student Aid for the funding year 2023/08/01 to 2024/07/31*.
